Introduction

The chart shows how much time Australians spent at work according to gender.

Overview

In general, most people worked for between 30 to 50 hours per week, while the amounts done by the two genders were fairly comparable.

Body paragraph 1

Slightly more men were prone to longer work durations. More specifically, a 34-36-hour workweek was the most common among men (26%) and women (22%), while fewer people (around 20%) spent 40 to 50 hours at work. Only up to 5% of employees, in stark contrast, were classified as hyper-busy, who contributed over 60 hours per week.

Body paragraph 2

Among workers with greater amounts of free time, on the other hand, women tended to occupy larger proportions. Almost 20 percent of them, compared with just 7 percent of men, worked for 24 to 26 hours per week, resulting in the widest gender gap observed. Smaller differences (around 3%) were recorded for the 30-32-hour and below-20-hour ranges, which featured close to 15% and 4% of the workforce.
