Bài viết mẫu IELTS Writing Task 2 dạng Opinion Essay
Introduction
These days, there are those who claim that much exposure to watching TV and playing computer games causes damage to children’s intellectual abilities. Personally, I partly agree with this idea, by which I mean that spending hours in front of the television poses a threat to children’s mental abilities, but involving themselves in computer games makes some contributions. In this essay, I will elaborate upon the reasons.
Body Paragraph 1
The reason why I believe that children’s mental abilities can be adversely impacted if they watch a lot of TV is that they do not need to think actively. When watching TV, children are passive recipients. In other words, they just receive messages that TV programmes provide, instead of using their brains to process and analyse the information and knowledge, which is likely to lead to a decrease in comprehension and learning abilities.
Body Paragraph 2
On the other hand, however, having fun with computer games gives children’s brain a real workout. In order to win in a game, children need to follow the instructions given, and when encountering difficulty, they have to think carefully before coming up with effective solutions. They also need to make their hands and eyes coordinated well. In fact, all these mentioned above require children to exercise their brains. Therefore, playing games does not exert negative influences on children’s mental abilities; rather, it trains a wide range of mental skills, such as following instructions, problem solving and hand-eye coordination, which are not taught at school.
Conclusion
In conclusion, my viewpoint is that a lot of time spent on watching TV is detrimental to children’s mental abilities in that they do not actively participate in thinking. However, these abilities can be promoted by playing computer games, through which many mental skills can be cultivated.
