Some people think that companies and individuals, rather than the government, should pay for cleaning up pollution. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Introduction
Some people argue that enterprises and the general public, rather than the government ought to take accountability for the cost of addressing the problem of a polluted environment. I somewhat disagree with this statement, because although businesses’ and individuals’ economic contributions to the clean-up of pollution allow them to be aware of protecting the environment, the government’s effort is also beneficial, especially to large environment-conservation projects.
Body Paragraph 1
It is fair to say that there is justification for encouraging companies and individuals to be responsible for paying for cleaning up pollution as this is an effective approach to increase their awareness of the preservation of the environment. Without any economic sanctions imposed, factories may discharge unprocessed waste water to rivers and emit toxic gases into the air, leading to water contamination and air pollution. Meanwhile, pollution may be caused by some travellers throwing litter everywhere, including plastic bottles and batteries. If they were fined for the pollution, such unacceptable behaviour would not occur.
Body Paragraph 2
On the other hand, however, the government’s ability to tackle some huge pollution-related projects also determines the vital role it plays in providing funds in dealing with pollution. There is a fact that certain areas of some countries in the world have been polluted severely. In order to mitigate the situation, programmes requiring a great amount of money have to be established. That is to say that other than the government, neither companies or individuals can afford such big costs. If the government’s participation is not considered, the pollution will continue, which will never be settled.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I somewhat disapprove of the viewpoint that the responsibility for allocating money to solving pollution has to be restricted to only businesses and citizens instead of the government. Requiring companies and individuals to pay for pollution caused by them can assist them realising the detrimental influences and therefore reducing pollution. The involvement of government agencies is also regarded significant in terms of administering some large pollution control programmes.
