The restoration of old buildings in major cities in the world costs numerous governments’ expenditure. This money should be used in new housing and road development. To what extent do you agree or disagree? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Introduction
There is an argument that government expenditure allocated to the maintenance of old buildings should be given to the construction of new houses and the development of roads. Personally, I somewhat disagree with this idea and I will elaborate upon the reasons below.
Body Paragraph 1
It is of great significance to finance old buildings because art, culture and history can be preserved in this way. Many old buildings are with certain artistic, cultural and historical value, but due to the lack of protection and even demolishment, these characters have disappeared. However, with government’s financial support, these constructions can be well maintained, so that people, be they natives or travellers, can have an appreciation of the elements mentioned, and also serve as a venue where future generations are educated.
Body Paragraph 2
Additionally, if sufficient funds were given to preserve old buildings, local economic growth could be boosted. Modern travellers are unwilling to visit a particular place without any character. These buildings, however, can become tourist spots used to attract visitors after a programme of regular maintenance in place. Consequently, those cities can not only benefit from charging travellers for admission fees, but also from the amount of money they spend on a wide range of items, such as accommodation, food and souvenirs.
Body Paragraph 3
On the other hand, however, it is also essential to spend money on new housing and road development because citizens’ living environment and life satisfaction can be improved. With more new apartment blocks constructed, people will no longer face housing shortages caused by population expansion. At the same time, traffic congestion is not a public concern as more roads enable drivers to reach their destinations through different routes.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I have partial disagreement that government funds should be diverted from the preservation of historical buildings because the ignorance of restoring old buildings can result in a loss of some art, culture and history, and also prevent the economy from progressing. However, I admit that there is necessity to give funding to new housing and road development for the benefit of citizens’ daily life.
